Opening verdict
Choose Plaud Note Pro when your week mixes direct phone calls with meetings around a table. Choose Plaud NotePin S when the recorder needs to stay on your clothing for in-person conversations and dedicated phone-call capture does not matter.
The Canadian list prices checked October 3, 2026 are close: CA$259.99 for Note Pro and CA$249.99 for NotePin S. That CA$10 gap should not drive the choice. The useful question is where the microphone needs to be when a conversation starts.
This is a research-based comparison of manufacturer documentation. Inquory has not used either device and has not independently tested recording range, battery life, transcription accuracy, speaker labels, or summaries. All specifications below are vendor claims.
The two-minute decision
Start with the recording situations that occur in a normal month:
| Your recurring situation | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Direct phone calls are part of the job | Note Pro | Plaud documents smart dual-mode recording for phone calls and in-person meetings. |
| Most conversations happen face to face while you move around | NotePin S | It is a 17.4 g wearable with a magnetic pin, clip, lanyard, and wristband included. |
| One device must cover calls and conference rooms | Note Pro | It combines phone-call capture with a four-MEMS microphone array, one vibration pickup unit, and an advertised range of up to 5 m. |
| You want a recorder on your clothing with a tactile start control | NotePin S | A one-second hold starts or stops recording; vibration and a red light confirm the state. |
| You need the longest quoted continuous runtime | Note Pro | Plaud quotes up to 30 hours in Enhance mode or 50 hours in Endurance mode, versus up to 20 hours for NotePin S. |
| Dedicated phone-call recording is irrelevant | NotePin S | Its lighter wearable form becomes the main reason to choose it. |
“Up to” figures are manufacturer limits, not typical results. Room acoustics, placement, distance, overlapping voices, and firmware can change actual performance.
What changes in daily use
Note Pro: a recorder for mixed formats
Plaud describes Note Pro as a credit-card-size recorder that automatically shifts between phone-call and in-person modes. For direct phone-call capture, Plaud instructs the user to attach Note Pro to the phone before dialing. The included Magnetic Case provides the attachment; phones without a magnetic back use the included Magnetic Ring. This documented mode is phone-based and does not establish landline compatibility.
The company lists four MEMS microphones, one vibration pickup unit, 64 GB of storage, a 30 g weight, an AMOLED status display, and an advertised pickup range of up to 5 m.
Its battery claim depends on mode: up to 30 hours of continuous recording in Enhance mode and up to 50 hours in Endurance mode. Plaud pairs Endurance mode with a shorter quoted pickup range of 3 m. That trade-off matters more than the largest number on the product page.
Choose it when calls and rooms are both real requirements. If every important conversation is in person and you want the recorder on your clothing, its broader capture modes may add little value.
NotePin S: a recorder for in-person movement
Plaud positions NotePin S as an in-person wearable. The company lists two MEMS microphones, 64 GB of storage, a 17.4 g weight, up to 3 m of pickup, and up to 20 hours of continuous recording. The included magnetic pin, clip, lanyard, and wristband provide four ways to carry it.
The tactile button is simple: hold it for one second to start or stop, and press briefly during recording to add a highlight. Plaud says vibration and a red indicator confirm the recording state.
The boundary is explicit. Plaud support says NotePin S has no dedicated phone-call recording feature because it lacks the required vibration conduction sensor. Speakerphone capture is documented as a workaround, but it is not equivalent to dedicated call mode and depends on the surrounding room.
Worked scenario: one consultant, two very different weeks
The following is a synthetic decision scenario, not a hands-on test or customer result.
Maya is a consultant choosing one recorder.
In Week A, she has six direct client calls, two video meetings at her desk, and one conference-room workshop. Note Pro is the stronger fit because direct phone-call capture is a repeated requirement. The display and higher quoted room range may also help her check state and placement during the workshop. She should treat the video meetings separately: Plaud Desktop is the vendor’s computer-meeting tool, and this comparison does not test it.
In Week B, she shadows a field team, walks between work areas, and conducts eight short face-to-face interviews. She makes no direct phone recordings. NotePin S is the stronger fit because a 17.4 g recorder on a clip or lanyard matches the work. Note Pro’s call mode would not solve a recurring problem that week.
Now count a real month. If direct phone calls appear repeatedly, choose Note Pro. If nearly every capture is in person and wearing the recorder prevents missed starts, choose NotePin S. If neither pattern occurs often, neither device has made its case.
What stays the same
Both devices include 64 GB of storage and 300 transcription minutes per month on Plaud’s Starter plan. Plaud’s Canadian membership page currently lists Annual Pro at CA$139.99 for 1,200 minutes per month and Annual Unlimited at CA$299.99, subject to an advertised limit of up to 24 hours per day. Unused monthly minutes do not carry over.
That service layer is shared, so it does not distinguish the hardware. Estimate your monthly transcription minutes before paying for a larger plan. Recording can continue after the allowance runs out, but Plaud says transcription pauses until minutes reset or more are added.
Plaud also says data is transferred to the cloud for processing and that cloud storage behaviour depends on the Cloud Sync setting. Those are vendor representations, and the current materials contain several data categories and settings. This article makes no promise about a precise storage region or deletion time. Review the current controls and terms before recording confidential material.
What could disappoint you
Neither device removes review work. Transcripts and generated summaries can misstate names, numbers, decisions, or overlapping speech. Verify consequential details against the audio.
Note Pro’s longer quoted runtime comes from a mode with a shorter stated pickup range. NotePin S cannot provide dedicated phone-call capture. A wearable may also be inappropriate where participants should see the recorder clearly.
Both products depend on Plaud software and cloud processing for transcription and AI features. The close hardware prices can make the purchase look simple, while the recurring service and review workload determine whether it remains useful.
Recording permission depends on the setting. Explain what is being recorded, obtain appropriate consent, and follow applicable law and workplace policy. Inquory is not making a legal or professional-compliance determination.
Buy it / skip it
Buy Note Pro when direct phone calls recur, one recorder must cover calls and rooms, or its display and quoted endurance solve a specific workflow problem.
Buy NotePin S when hands-free in-person capture is the purpose of the purchase and dedicated phone-call recording is unnecessary.
Skip both for now when recording is occasional, your phone already captures usable audio, or cloud processing is unsuitable for the material. The broader phone-versus-recorder decision is covered in Do you need a dedicated AI recorder, or is your phone enough?.
